You don’t have to register to use either site, and you can simply paste the text of your resume to create your resume word cloud. Try both sites and see which you like better. TagCrowd gives you a few more options to fine tune the resulting resume word cloud than Wordle.

How to Interpret Your Resume Word Cloud Against Your Resume Objectives

Once you’ve created your resume word cloud, find the five largest and boldest words. This is the focus of your resume. These five words represent the key words on your resume. They let you see how your resume presents you to others. Now, consider the results. If you are applying for programming position, the five largest words in your resume word cloud should be related to programming. Similarly, if you are applying for a position as a project manager, engineer, teacher, social worker, or whatever, you need to make sure your top five words are related to the position for which you are applying.

How to Fix Your Resume to Better Focus on Keywords

I always tell job seekers when applying for a position, to look at the announcement and make a list of the specific skills and experience they want from a candidate. For example, if you are applying for a position as a graphic designer, but the top five words include things like fishing, dancing, waiting tables, fixing engines, or other unrelated items, you need to take those items off the resume or at least rework them so they are relevant and aren’t the focus of your resume.
