That working-world wisdom holds true today for getting a new job or finding a job while employed. With that said, there are proven job search tips for finding a job while employed that won’t throw a wrench in the works of, well, your current work.

Here are some top tips for getting a new job without upsetting the apple cart, or calling it what it really is… finding a job while employed.

1. Get the Word Out to Your Network

Finding a job while employed starts with a little help from your friends. If you’re interested in getting a new job, let your contacts know that you’re open to new prospects and what type of job you are seeking. With 74% of the working population open to changing jobs, know you aren’t alone. If you are searching for a new job confidentially, be sure to say so to ensure no one lets the cat out of the bag. 2. Finding Time to Search for a New Job

When you have a full-time job, finding time to search for a new job can be difficult, but it’s not impossible. Many job seekers are able to dedicate an hour before or after work to career networking or dedicated online job searching. On the weekends, make it two hours. You should spend this time researching companies, targeting decision makers within those companies, and reaching out to your network contacts. While it may seem common sense, many job seekers fail to realize the rule that there is absolutely NO job searching while at work – that’s right, none. If you’re serious about getting a new job, save your job searches for home, the coffee shop, or your local library. If your employer is watching you, or they have your IT department doing it, you could be caught searching for a new job online as they can see your browser history. In addition, if you are using your company email, telephone, or fax during your job search, you are more likely to be caught and could even lose your current job as a result. Don’t risk it. 5. Schedule Job Interviews Outside of Regular Hours

Whenever possible, schedule job interviews around your normal working hours, such as before or after work or even during lunch.
